Topic: Student number re-allocations
Release Date: 17/01/2012

In response to HEFCW’s student number re-allocation proposals John Hughes, Chair of Higher Education Wales said:
“This alteration to the current student number allocations reflects how the Welsh HE sector has responded to the challenges of the new fees system to strengthen and sustain the future of our universities.  It is important to note that under the new model, it is anticipated that in 2013/14 every university in Wales will receive more funding than in the current structure.  This is not the same as the ‘core and margin’ system being introduced in England, but a Wales specific model to re-distribute the allocated funding to help achieve the objectives set out in the Welsh Government’s For Our Future strategy. We will continue to work productively with HEFCW to help ensure a seamless transition to the arrangements outlined in today’s announcement”.
